Danny Brown preaches his Detroit gospel, drenched in lysergic rhymes and circuit bent wordplay. Live at HARD Summer 2012.
If it wasn’t for the jeans, _(artist-name)Danny Brown_ would probably be in G-Unit right now. After famously collaborating with the rapper _(artist-name)Tony Yayo_, the charismatic Detroit native found a way to the ear of _(artist-name)50 Cent_, though quickly realized his tight pants and punk haircut didn’t jive with the street image of the label. Instead, _(artist-name)Brown_ began to further cultivate his strangeness and ended up releasing a free mixtape, _(album-title)XXX_, on the party-oriented Fools Gold label owned by _(artist-name)A-Trak_ and _(artist-name)Nick Catchdubs_. And while he dabbles in the prerequisite raps about weed, women and money, _(artist-name)Brown_ delivers his rhymes with a peculiar flair for wordplay and inflection not witnessed in hip hop for some time - which is probably why _(album-title)XXX_ was loved by tastemakers and music fans alike. Hot on the heels of _(album-title)XXX_’ blurry tales, the man who claims the ability to make great songs even out of whack beats proved his versatility by jumping on some of the best tracks of recent years by the likes of _(artist-name)El-P_, _(artist-name)Mr. Motherfukin’ Exquire_, _(artist-name)Araabmuzik_ or _(artist-name)ASAp Rocky_'s _(artist-name)ASAP Mob_.
