Berlin’s DJ Pete of Hard Wax and Chain Reaction fame with a breath-taking mix of classic techno and bass-heavy house. Live in Athens!
When looking at Berlin’s techno map, it’s almost impossible to miss _(artist-name)DJ Pete_. Being there right from the start, Pete quickly turned from a consumer into a DJ, producer, remixer and vital part of the Hard Wax record store crew, selecting and treating new, old and in-between sounds. As part of the duo _(artist-name)Scion_, he started to release on Basic Channel’s sub label Chain Reaction in 1995 _(album-title)Emerge_), followed by more productions under his solo pseudonym _(artist-name)Substance_ on CR and Scion Versions, as well as remixes for artists like _(artist-name)Juan Atkins_, _(artist-name)Robert Hood_ and _(artist-name)Rhythm & Sound_. Another fine example of both his variety and open-mindedness is the fact that he - as a DJ still preferring the sonic and haptic qualities of vinyl - released _(album-title)Scion Arrange And Process Basic Channel Tracks_ with Scion, which was the first commercially available CD ever to have been produced with the then completely new software Ableton Live. His DJ sets comprise a wide range of the most important currents the music went through over the last 20 years. Based on loop-heavy techno with a dose of industrial, tougher house tracks, the proverbial sound of Berlin as well as classic US techno. Moving between those poles is DJ Pete’s main source for inspiration, currently resulting in him spicing up his sets with a lot of UK bass music verging on techno.
