NYC’s versatile and multi-talented DJ Spinna with a special five-hour set. Live from his Stevie Wonder tribute party in Philly.
Vincent Williams aka _(artist-name)DJ Spinna_ is something of an anomaly in music. A humbling example of what it takes to truly succeed within the framework of multiple fields: A steadfast work ethic, an obsessively extensive vinyl library, and the willingness to pursue the full extent of his roots (funk, soul and jazz), foundation (hip hop) and future (electronic dance music) with no restraints. He’s been a cornerstone of hip hop’s late 90s indie-uprise with his group _(artist-name) Jigmastas_ and label Beyond Real, and provided the canvas for an array of that era’s lyrical giants including _(artist-name)Mos Def_, _(artist-name)Talib Kweli_ or _(artist-name)Pharoahe Monch_. Collaborations with _(artist-name)Brand Nubian_’s _(artist-name)Sadat X_ and _(artist-name)Grand Puba_, _(artist-name)Masta Ace_, and Guru to _(artist-name)The Jungle Brothers_ followed, as well as an impressive string of remixes, including works for _(artist-name)Mary J Blige_, _(artist-name)Michael Jackson_, _(artist-name)De La Soul_, _(artist-name)Platinum Pied Pipers_, _(artist-name)Les Nubians_ and _(artist-name)Zero 7_, to name but a few. The remix that really catapulted Spinna into his now stately presence in the dance music scene, was his version of _(artist-name)Shawn Escoffery_’s _(song-title)Days Like This_. A timeless piece of soulful dance music, and without a doubt on of the biggest house records in recent years. He released a landmark solo album on BBE Records in 2004, the cosmic funk, 80s synth-driven _(album-title)Intergalactic Soul_ LP in 2006, and founded his own imprint Wonder Wax, featuring the soulful sounds of _(artist-name)Rich Medina_, _(artist-name)Lady Alma_, _(artist-name)Blaze_, The Free Radikalz or Selan. On the DJ side Spinna is a true globetrotter and regularly plays everywhere from Iceland to Japan.
