Dreamy textures over disjointed beats. West Coast electronic authority Dntel live at Dublab’s 13th anniversary party in Los Angeles.

James Tamborello aka James Figurine aka _(artist-name)Dntel_ has mastered quite a few things, including electrified beats and instrumental jams of all sorts, bass guitar and, apparently, time management. Otherwise there’d be no explanation for how he has been accommodating gigs from driving _(artist-name)The Postal Service_ to cross-over success, his solo endeavours as Dntel and being one third of techno pop group _(artist-name)Figurine_. Steadily releasing records since 1989, he started out playing with bands like Strictly Ballroom, Further or The Tyde, before joining forces with _(artist-name)Death Cab For Cutie_’s Ben Gibbard, laying out the template for what once was called indie-tronica. But even before The Postal Service took over in the early noughties, you could get your dosage of dreamy textures and glitchy beats on Dntel’s 2001 masterstroke _(album-title)Life Is Full Of Possibilities_ and its successor _(album-title)Dumb Luck_. Dntel has since worked with the likes of _(artist-name)Conor Oberst_, _(artist-name)Grizzly Bear_ or _(artist-name)Nite Jewel_, released a series of compilations as well as his third official album _(album-title)Aimlessness_ on _(artist-name)DJ Koze_’s Pampa imprint in the summer of 2012.
