Live at Picnic Sessions

London avant-pop trio Micachu And The Shapes bring their fuzzy loops and industrial clank to CA2M’s Picnic Sessions in Madrid.
_(artist-name)Micachu_ is the moniker of songwriter and producer _(artist-name)Mica Levi_. Despite her relative youth, _(artist-name)Micachu_ has proven herself to be something of a renaissance artist: equally at home writing and producing stunning, experimental pop with the likes of Matthew Herbert and MC-ing with friends in various grime collectives as she is working with her own crew, _(artist-name)The Shapes_. Perhaps the real beauty of _(artist-name)Micachu_’s talent is that despite her prodigious musical ability she keeps things rough around the edges: no polished beats when fat dirty ones will do, obvious choruses eschewed for intricate yet subtle melodies that grow and grow. _(artist-name)Mica Levi_ studied violin, viola and composition at the Purcell School before being offered a scholarship to attend the Guildhall School of Music and Drama to study composition, followed by an artist residency at the prestigious Southbank Centre. Her talent as a young composer has not gone unnoticed with _(artist-name)Mark Anthony Turnage_ commissioning her to write an orchestral piece for the London Philharmonic Orchestra to be performed at the Royal Festival Hall. For live shows _(artist-name)Micachu_ plays with her band _(artist-name)The Shapes_: a three-piece fronted by _(artist-name)Micachu_ (vocals, guitar, electronics and Hoover), Academy 2011 alumna _(artist-name)Raisa K_ (keys) and _(artist-name)Marc Pell_ (drums). Together they share a love for inventing beauty out of the most unlikely sources - and self-made instruments.
